Happy Heritage Week!

We are right in the middle of Heritage Week 2016 – and the theme “Distinctive Destinations” (Feb 15-21).

Heritage Chilliwack’s Heritage Week historical photo display is up at various locations through Chilliwack. Drop by any or all of the locations: Chilliwack Dart & Tackle on Young Road, The Rosedale Market, Mount Waddingtons, The Royal Hotel and the Harvest Café on Mill Street.

To coincide with Heritage Week, we are also very excited to announce the launch of our self-guided printed Heritage Walking Tour, in partnership with Tourism Chilliwack!

The brochure is available at Tourism Chilliwack’s Information Centre (44150 Luckakuck), The Royal Hotel as well as other downtown merchants. You can also download the brochure directly from Tourism Chilliwack’s website. Here is the link:

This Friday, Feb 19th @7 pm the Chilliwack Museum is having their Heritage Week event – a special presentation from Vancouver-based architectural historian Donald Luxton. During this free event Luxton will be talking about Thomas Hooper, architect responsible for the design of Chilliwack’s City Hall (now the Museum). http://www.chilliwackmuseum.ca/events-calendar/

After the presentation at the Museum, we invite you to join us at Society Gathering House for a fun and casual social evening. Enjoy live music and a beverage while visiting with other Heritage Chilliwack members and supporters. We’d love to see a great turn out on Friday – hope you can make it.

Cheers,

Heritage Chilliwack Society

Memorial Day Wreath

The members that attended the AGM of Heritage Chilliwack Society voted to spend $30.00 towards a wreath/cross to be placed at the cenotaph at Veteran’s Memorial Park (DT Chilliwack, behind the Museum) on November 11, 2015 to honour veterans at the Remembrance Day Ceremonies. Please join us there if you can.

A big Thank You to Cameron Hull for donating the funds to purchase this wreath on behalf Chilliwack Heritage Society.

AGM Meeting Thursday october 29th, 2015

As required by the Society Act of BC, we are required to hold an annual general meeting. This will be held Thursday, Oct. 29th at the Chilliwack Library meeting room with registration starting at 6:30 pm.

With the exception of the new members who signed up Saturday, everyone is required to renew their membership. Please note we have a proposed resolution to increase the membership fee to $5.00 for two years. If you can please bring your $5 that would speed up the registration process. The meeting will start at 7:00 and should be over by 7:45 at the latest. Although we have business to conduct we also have prizes! There will be 2 prize draws – one door prize and a draw for volunteers who helped Saturday. So it will be worth it to attend. And your input is always welcome! Also keep in mind we need a quorum to conduct the meeting. An official notice of the AGM is attached to this email, as well as our financial statement. Copies will also be available at the meeting.

Immediately following the AGM a group of us will be attending the opening reception at the Chilliwack Museum for their exhibition “Game On”. Hope you will join us.

A man happened along three bricklayers busy at work.

He asked the first bricklayer, “What are you doing?”
“I’m laying bricks,” the first bricklayer said.
The man asked the second bricklayer the same question.
“I’m putting up a wall,” was the reply.
The passerby then posed the question to the third bricklayer.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“I’m building a great cathedral,” the third bricklayer replied.    (Anonymous)

We can make a difference by working together –

Hope to see you next Thursday Oct. 29th!
